Good fences make good neighbors. Good stain keeps them that way.
Decks, fences, pergolas, railings, and gates — cleaned, sanded, and sealed with products chosen for Southern Oregon’s sun and winter rain. Exposed wood here takes a beating from both, and a maintained finish is far cheaper than replacing boards.

Both work. Which one is right depends on the wood, its condition, and how much maintenance you want to sign up for.
Semi-transparent stain | Solid stain | Paint | |
|---|---|---|---|
Shows wood grain | Yes | Partly | No |
Typical recoat | 2–3 years | 3–5 years | 5–7 years |
Hides weathering | Minimal | Good | Best |
Peel risk on walking surfaces | Low | Moderate | Higher |
Best for | Newer cedar, quality wood | Weathered decks, fences | Railings, fences, trim |
Wash to remove dirt, mildew, moss, graying, and smoke residue.
Loose boards refastened, popped nails set, and failing boards flagged before finish goes on.
Rough and splintered areas smoothed, especially on handrails and walking surfaces.
Wood has to reach the right moisture content before sealing. We check rather than guess.
Applied to penetrate, with attention to end grain and board edges where water gets in first.
Oregon requires any paid contractor doing home improvement work to hold an active CCB license. Ours is #232891, and you can verify it yourself in about ten seconds.
Late spring and early fall are ideal in Grants Pass — the wood is dry but surface temperatures aren’t so high that stain flashes off before it penetrates. North-facing fences and shaded decks stay damp far longer through our wet winters, so those surfaces need extra drying time and a mildew-resistant product. If your deck grayed out over a few summers or your fence is showing dark streaks after winter, it’s asking for attention.
Walls, ceilings, trim, and doors, with your home fully protected.
Full prep and UV-resistant coatings built for Southern Oregon summers.
A factory-smooth kitchen finish without a remodel.
Offices, retail, churches, schools, and multi-unit properties across Southern Oregon.
We provide professional deck and fence painting services throughout Grants Pass and the surrounding Rogue Valley, serving homes and businesses across Josephine and Jackson counties.

Very impressed with Good Neighbor Painting. They completed a large project at my place of work, and the quality of their work, professionalism, and attention to detail really stood out. The owner was great to work with, and his crew was hardworking, respectful, and reliable. I was so impressed with the results that I decided to have them paint my own home as well—and they did not disappoint. The work was excellent from start to finish, and the entire experience was professional and hassle-free. It says a lot when you’re so impressed with a company’s work at your workplace to trust them with your own home. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for quality painting work, competitive pricing, and a crew you can count on!Posted on Google![]()
